Barabels are hairless bipedal reptiloids who inhabit Barab I. They stand from
- 75 to 2.5 meters tall. Horny black scales cover bodies that be black, grey,
or red in color. Their mouths contain needle-sharp five-centimeter-long teeth, and their eyes can be black or red. True to their reptilian heritage, a Barabel can also shed its tail if necessary.
Barabels live in warrens that can range from a few dozen individuals to no more than ten thousand. They are hunters by instinct who display prodigious tracking prowess. Though known for their aggression, they are also incredibly loyal to their mates and family.
They have a deep respect for Jedi Knights, and a few have tried to emulate the Jedi tradition despite little aptitude in the Force. This respect goes back to the time of the Barabel War, when the primitive hunters split into two factions over access to choice hunting grounds. Passing Jedi Knights intervened and negotiated a peaceful solution, keeping the Barabels from killing themselves needlessly.
Some Barabels have taken jobs as porters, guides, soldiers, and shockboxers, and some left the planet with bounty hunter commissions or pirates, but the majority of the species remains on-world, untamed and uncivilized and without a native means of space travel.
Due to their thick scales, Barabel characters will ignore more damage than other races.
