Hyperdrive

Powered by incredibly efficient fusion generators, hyperdrive engines hurl ships into hyperspace, a dimension of space-time that can only be reached by faster-than-light speeds. Hyperdrives work with astrogation computers to assure safe and dependable hyperspace travel.

To protect ships from hyperspace gravity shadows, most hyperdrives come equipped with an automatic cutoff. If a gravity shadow is scanned along the route ahead, the cutoff dumps the ship back into realspace. Even with cutoffs, ships that fly too close to gravity shadows while traveling through hyperspace can sustain massive, and sometimes fatal, amounts of damage.
