The Rules of SWmud
These are the rules that the players are advised to abide by on SWmud.
These rules have been designed to keep this MUD fun and enjoyable for
everyone, players and coders alike. Failure to comply with the following
rules will be dealt with by punishment based on the severity of the offense,
as well as the type of crime.
- Sexual harrassment of other characters
on here will NOT be tolerated, and will result in immediate dismissal
from the game.
- All players must have a valid email address,
otherwise they will be asked politely to change
it. If they do not change their email to a proper address within
a reasonable amount of time, they will be jailed
until a proper email address is in place. NOTE:
Email addresses cannot be seen by anyone except SWmud Admin, and we
do not give the addresses out or use it for junk mail.
Free or web-based email addresses (e.g. Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, etc.) are not
considered valid. Read the Email file for more
details.
- Multiple
(or alternate) characters are permitted with certain limitations. Read the multiple characters page for more information.
- Exploiting a bug will result in immediate punishment of the player(s)
involved. If you think you have found a bug, please contact the caretaker
of the area in which the bug was found. They will handle it or give
you further instructions on what to do. If you are not sure whether
something is a bug, please inform the proper coder(s) and do not exploit
the potential bug. If you are not sure who to contact, post
it in the bug newsgroup in rn.
- Swearing of any kind in any language will not be allowed on SWmud.
It will result in a shoutcurse by whoever
catches you, and that coder will be the one to remove it. Please do
not mail the coder who shoutcurses you, begging to get your voice back,
because that will usually result in a longer shoutcurse time.
- Please be polite and curteous to other
players. Remember that they are here to enjoy SWmud and we want
them to all have equal opportunity to do so. Overly annoying and excessively
obnoxious characters will be dealt with accordingly. The coders and
players all deserve to enjoy the time they spend on here.
- If you think an action is questionable, then simply refrain from
doing it. The SWmud Law staff reserves the right
to make judgments on whether a particular act merits punishment. We
are only human and cannot possibly think of every single situation regarding
legal/illegal actions on the mud.
- Players are responsible for reading ALL boards and announcements.
If a warning is posted and you do not read it, yet break that rule,
you will be held responsible for the offense. Please take the 2-3 minutes
time when you log on to read the boards. NOTE:
Read the rn file for more information
about our newsreader.
- Asking a coder to give you an object, heal you, or help you advance
in the mud in anyway is a violation. Please save your breath and our
time and don't ask for things from coders
that you KNOW they cannot do for you.
- Rules regarding Scripts and Triggers:
- The use of scripts or triggers is illegal and will result in immediate
punishment. This is harmful to the mud because it drives up the
CPU usage unnecessarily. If you have a client
that has its own hotkeys or macros, the rule of thumb is this: ONE
command issued per hotkey, macro, or carriage return. NOTE:
If you type in too many commands at once, known as 'command stacking',
the mud will automatically boot you out and you will lose all of
your equipment. You should not lose auto-loading
items. If you do, you will have to get them back yourself.
- It is illegal to use any kinds of triggers, macros, scripts, timers
etc. to get the mudclient to play the mud for you. You are not to
use any of these to raise skills, kill monsters, move your character,
etc. while you yourself are not at the computer. You are required
to play your own character here.
- Do not use the auto-login feature available with several mudclients.
You are not to have your character log onto the mud on its own when
you are away from the computer.
- Keep in mind that we punish the PLAYER and not the character. Thus,
if you are about to be punished and decide to suicide,
when/if you log in as another character you will be punished for the
previous crimes. It is best to be mature and take account for your actions.
Law is not here to hurt you, but to make sure everyone is treated fairly
and with respect.
- There are certain quests and
secrets on this MUD which are
also illegal to discuss amongst yourselves.
The discussion of such secrets will
result in immediate removal with no questions asked. There have been
many coders who have taken time and effort to code challenges into their
areas, so please respect that and keep your knowledge of such things
a secret. It is also a sign of respect to the players who have worked
hard to solve those quests and puzzles legitimately. Do not share any
quest information you have.
- Bouncing is illegal and will result in
immediate punishment. (Since the combat code has been revamped to make
bouncing impossible, please report any loopholes you might find immediately;
exploitation of the loophole will be treated as bug abuse.)
- Impersonating wizards in any shape or form is highly illegal. This
includes, for example, using a wizard's name in the jedi illusions
skill. Impersonating mud callouts, such as the reboot sequence,
is also highly illegal.
- Firing or using any sort of ranged
combat from condos is illegal, as is ranged combat from any place where
the target cannot fire back at you.
- Blatant use of skills for the purpose of raising the skill on the
planet Coruscant is illegal*. Those in violation of this will find their
percentage in the skill used set back to zero. They will also face jail
time.
* NOTE: Player killers may use their
hide/stealth/blend skills on the dock to throw off any people who are
watching for you to leave. This is legitimate skill use.
