Container ship
Container ships, or super transports, are among the largest commercial
vessels plying the space lanes. Big, slow, and expensive, they are still
the most efficient way to transport huge amounts of cargo from system
to system. Ease and speed of cargo handling make these vessels so efficient.
They haul standardized cargo containers, which are sealed and loaded by
automated barges. Some containers are even designed to carry passengers.
A single super transport may carry hundreds of various sized containers
for drop off along its winding route through space. Too large to land
on a planet or approach a space dock, container ships must rely on light
freighters and other small craft to collect and transfer their cargo to
orbital ports within a system.
