Drop ship

Most massive capital warships cannot enter a planet's atmosphere, let alone make planetfall. To quickly transport troops or crew or cargo to a planet's surface, they employ fast-moving drop ships. Using powerful but short-burst drive units, drop ships plummet from orbit in barely controlled falls. When speed is not of the essence, shuttles and normal transports can be used. Drop ships mainly serve to deposit troops quickly into a battle zone.
