Ryloth

The principle planet of Ryloth, in the Outer Rim star system of the same name, is home to the Twi'lek species. This dry, rocky world of shadowy valleys and mist covered peaks has a thin but breathable atmosphere. The planet orbits its sun in such a way that one side of the world bakes in perpetual daylihgt while the other side is plunged into constant night.

Most of the world's inhabitants live in this darkness, including the Twi'leks. The dark side would be nothing more than frozen rock if not for the swirling currents of hot air that blow in from the sun swept regions. These heat storms are dry twisters that provide the warmth necessary to support the dark side's ecology. The Twi'leks live within massive catacombs built directly into the rocky outcroppings and cliff sides that cover the planet's dark side.

On this primitive industrial world, the inhabitants use windmills and air spun turbines to turn the hot winds into power for the city complexes' heat, air circulation, lights, and minor industries. The Twi'leks' chief export is the medicinal mineral known as ryll, which has illegal uses in addition to its legitimate applications.
