  1. What is the first thing I should do here as a newbie?
Type panic. Every command on SWmud has a help file in the HitchHikers Guide to the SWmud Galaxy, but there are other help files as well. panic newbie will list those other guide files for you.
  2. Where to get experience points here?
First off, you start with 1000 exp points. Find a guild on Coruscant, and join one using the exp. Second, find the S.S.Essess, south and east of Planetary Customs (start room), enter it and read the directions. Start with Newbiway. On Newbiway you will find things lying on the ground (weapons etc.), pirates to kill or ships to fly. It will be enough to get you started. panic exp to see how much you need for new levels.
  3. Do I keep my stuff when I quit?
No you do not. Sell everything before you quit the game. Once you get enough money, you can buy a condo, where you can store equipment till the next reboot.
  4. What kind of equipment do I need to start with?
You should find enough equipment to get you started on Newbiway or you can always try asking your team mates. However, be aware that a weapon's power is based on your level here. So unfortunately, any awesome weapon in your hands is just as good as a measly knife. Therefore, there is no need to try to find the best equipment on the mud when you start out. All the newbie equipment suits you just fine.
  5. What do the brackets around some players in the "who" listing mean?
People who are enclosed in brackets in the who list have their next command going to input_to. In otherwords, they are either editing, posting on a bulletin board, or mailing (or something of that nature). It is considered polite not to bother someone who is in one of these situations, unless it is really important, or you KNOW they won't mind.
  6. What does the number (1m, 1h, 28m, etc) after some names on the "who" list mean?
Anyone with a number after their name is idle. The number represents how long they have been idle (m for minutes, h for hours).
  7. How do I send and read mail on SWmud?
Use the mail command. We have portable mailers, so you don't need to find a postoffice to do your mail. Several places on Coruscant are a haven for quiet mailing though. You might also find the mail commands useful.
  8. What is a guild?
A guild is a social institution as well as where your powers come from. Its main function is to give an individual player character and individuality that is not common in LPMud games. Your choice of guild should thus reflect your game personality. The number of guilds is limited and diverse enough to have a balance for everyone.
  9. What are the different guilds on SWmud?
Type panic guilds to get the most up to date guild information.
  10. How do I join a guild?
You must go to the guild hall of the guild of your choice and type join. You may advance in any three of the ten guilds, and you must have advanced at least once (to level 1) in the guild you wish to be your primary guild before you will be allowed to 'join'. Among other places, all guilds have guild halls on the planet Coruscant.
  11. Have you seen player X?
Type finger (player) and you will get all of the information you need.
  12. Why can't I wield this weapon?
Not all players can wield all weapons. Only Jedi can use light sabers, only mercenaries can use ranged weapons, and some melee weapons are assassin only. Only mercenaries and pilots can use vehicle's turrets. Because you can be a member of several guilds, this isn't really as restricting as it seems, but it may take some getting used to.
  13. Is player killing allowed?
Yes. Read the rules regarding PK and teams with for more information.
  14. How many quests do I have to do?
SWmud has no system for quests. Though there are quests are all over the mud, quests are not required for advancement. They are mainly for the advancement of the enjoyment and adventurism in the mud. You may do them as many or as few times as you wish. It is not kept track of which ones you do, and some have very nice rewards. However, do NOT discuss them with anyone; the wizards have no problem with removing quests due to abuse of them.
  15. How do I know my attributes?
    Type score.
  16. What do the stats mean?
Stats are numerical representations of your basic physical make-up, which is determed by your racial heritage. These stats are used in different relevant aspects of your mud life. panic attributes for more info.
  17. How do I learn more about this mud?
There are many forms of communication available, through which you can talk to the other players of the mud. The first one you should probably use when you first enter the mud is the race line. You can send messages out on the race line by typing race (message), and everyone else on the mud who is the same race as you will get the message. Once you join a guild, you will also have access to the guild line. Talking to members of your own race and guild are invaluable ways to gain information.
  18. How do I reroll my stats?
You don't get to reroll your stats. You made your decisions in the setter when you logged on, you don't get another chance. You can increase them at the secret Training Center; you just have to find it first. panic quest_doc for more information.
  19. What is legal here?
Check out the panic information on offensive_acts, rights, rules, sexual_harassment, snooping, and teams to find out the rules that all players must follow, along with the ways in which your rights as a player are protected. And try to think before you act.
  20. How do I know how well I'm doing in my skills?
